Academic Honesty:

Academic honesty: Cheating means to misrepresent the source, nature, or other conditions of your academic work (e.g., tests, papers, projects, assignments) so as to get undeserved credit. In addition, it is considered to be cheating when one cooperates with someone else in any such misrepresentation. The use of the intellectual property of others without giving them appropriate credit is a serious academic offense. It is the University's policy that cheating or plagiarism result in receiving a failing grade for the work or course. Repeat offenses result in dismissal from the University.

Plagiarism:

Plagiarism means to take and present as one’s own a material portion of the ideas or words of another or to present as one’s own an idea or work derived from an existing source without full and proper credit to the source of the ideas, words or works. This definition includes using another student’s work as your own as well as inadequately referencing other sources in your work. Plagiarism carries a variety of sanctions, ranging from lowering of the grade to dismissal from the University. The Universal Policy on Plagiarism is published in the KSU Phone Directory under “Student Cheating and Plagiarism.” You are responsible for knowing and abiding by this policy.

During the semester, students can earn up to 60 points (10 points per class) for presentation attendance. Attendance is expected. Attendance will be taken each time there are presentations. Tardiness (more than 10 minutes late) may affect the presentation attendance grade. The points listed below for each assignment will be used to determine the final grade.

This class is structured to assist you in your professional career. Therefore, you must maintain a professional mindset. In order to prepare, approach this class as you would a job. Your syllabus and book are tools to be considered as an employee handbook. Therefore, it will be your responsibility to know important assignment dates and other pertinent information. You are expected to conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times. Consider your classmates as co-workers and your instructor as the CEO of the organization.

Please do not expect points to be given to you – they must be earned – just as promotions are in a job. If you work hard, your grade will reflect it. If not, your grade will reflect that, as well. Bring your best self to “work” each day you attend!

ASSIGNMENTS / PRESENTATIONS:

The order of all individual presentations will be determined by a random drawing. The process will be discussed in detail. Group presentations will be in numerical order. Rubrics will be available before each presentation. In addition to the instructor’s evaluation of the presentations, peer evaluations will be given as well. More information will be provided in class about peer evaluations. Also, please site your sources used in presentations. ALL PRESENTATIONS MUST BE DELIVERED IN PERSON (NO EXCEPTIONS). PRESENTATIONS ARE TO BE DELIVERED ON THE DAY YOU ARE TO PRESENT –unless there is an exception which includes sickness, death in the family, and university functions performed out of town (such as field trips, sports activities, etc.). Notification of any exceptions is required before missed work. Else, excuse will not be granted. Not being prepared on time, not understanding the assignment, etc. are NOT valid reasons to miss a presentation. If you are not prepared to present on the day you are assigned, you will NOT be allowed to present on a different day and will be given the grade of “0” for the missed presentation.

Cell phones are strictly prohibited in class. Lap tops are as well unless instructed to bring to class. If you use unauthorized technology during presentations, 20 points will be deducted from your presentation.

Tuesday 9:55 AM Section 007

Please bring your presentation on a flash drive to save time. Trying to sign into various accounts before presentations, takes up additional time. Professional dress is required for ALL presentations.

TIMED PRESENTATIONS:

The group and final presentations will be timed. You will not be allowed to go over the amount of time allotted. If you run out of time (hear the alarm at any time) during your presentation, that constitutes going over and the lowest grade on the rubric for that particular section will be assessed….NO EXECPTIONS. Therefore, it is in your best interest to practice your presentations in advance.

EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS:

Emailing is regularly used for communication in the business world. Periodically, I will send emails as a way to communicate important information. Therefore, please start getting in the habit of checking your email regularly.

CHAPTER TOPICS:

It is your responsibility to complete the readings and be thoroughly prepared for quizzes.
